Company History
In 1995, because of the growing demand for food
service equipment in the state of Michigan, Great Lakes
Stainless, Inc. was founded. The owners of Grand
Traverse Refrigeration, Inc. saw a need and realized
that the manufacture of food equipment was a good fit
with the heating, cooling and commercial refrigeration
business that they had been operating since 1976.
Thus, with one employee and a Milwaukee Sawzall,
Great Lakes Stainless opened its doors; but that was
just the beginning. That one employee is now the
General Manager overseeing 34 well-trained, experienced
works and the Sawzall is mostly retired. A short nine
years and several additions later, the original facility
could no longer house those employees, a Komatsu Rasor
cutting system, press brakes, power shears, a 30-ton
strippet punch and an AutoCAD drafting staff.
Therefore, in order to keep up with the steady
increase in sales volume, GLS made the transition to
their new 50,000 square foot home in the fall of 2003.
This facility affords GLS the space required for on site
storage, additional manufacturing equipment, increased
productivity and has expanded the Company's
capabilities.
Company Goals
The quality of our products and services has
established our reputation as a leading custom
manufacturer. From the very beginning one of our most
important goals was not only to create a superior
product, but also to personalize the manufacturing
process. We strive to treat each customer, as we would
like to be treated, with courtesy and respect. Our claim
to fame has become our 'always on time' delivery. If we
say we will, we do.
Along with the goal of pleasing customers, the
second focus of our company is to create a work
environment that maximizes the potential of each
employee. Our employees are encouraged to share ideas
and information, not only with each other, but also with
the management. As a result, our craftspeople take great
personal pride in turning out only the finest quality of
custom work possible. |
